APNR Camera and Speed Camera desiccation and purging
The use of Automatic Number Plate Recognition Cameras (APNR) and Speed Cameras has seen a growth in the past 20 years. The reading of number plates alongside location data is used for a variety of traffic and law enforcement purposes.
These camera systems are susceptible to the environmental conditions of rain, dust, debris and contamination. These can cause the effects of condensation on the lenses and in extreme cases a whiteout of the camera altogether. Moisture ingress can also cause electronic failure to the circuitry.
The use of small Desiccators and Automatic Vents is commonplace for these types of camera system, helping to maintain visibility and pressure equalisation.
Our Automatic Vents are used to allow for pressure equalisation but will prevent contaminants and liquids entering the cameras and at the same time allow moisture to escape.
For all camera equipment it is advisable to dry gas purge your equipment prior to fitting any desiccation devices. It is not uncommon on small cameras to find that the amount of hydroscopic loading (in built moisture on electronics and cabling) within the components compared to the free air volume, can be 10 times greater. Tus, if you are sealing you camera you effectively holding the moisture inside and it will have no where to go.
