Missile Seeker Desiccation
We have decades of experience in the field of seeker desiccation. We have the facility to custom build desiccators to suit any shape parameters or size.
It is very important when deciding on the correct desiccation method to consider the type of seeker you are looking to protect. Whether they have Active, Passive or Preset Guidance, we can offer a solution that meets the high demands of cleanliness, filtration and dewpoint-maintained levels required.
Modern advances in IR tracking and Dual mode & Tri-Mode technology in missile seekers has increased the demand levels for precision machined desiccation systems that can meet the new requirements and challenges required to protect these systems.
Whether it is Homing, Infrared (IR), Dual Mode (DM), or a Tri Mode (TM) seeker, we have the knowledge and experience to provide the desiccation solution that will protect your equipment.
Most Seekers use Molecular Sieve desiccant due to the higher adsorption levels at the extremes of temperature compared to Silica Gel desiccant. It also provides a lower dewpoint level within the Seeker compared to Silica Gel.
When it comes to long term storage of Missile Seekers It is very important to remember that if you can ensure a very dry Storage Container, it will mean a much lower vapour differential within your container to missile seeker, thus increasing the desiccant life within your Seeker/Missile Assembly.
We are also involved in the evaluation of missile seekers to determine the moisture vapour transmission rates (MVTR), therefore allowing customers to accurately predict the life of the desiccant within the seeker during its life in storage or on the platform. Thus, maximising the available space for the desiccant pack and molecular sieve desiccant.
We use our exclusive MVTR Evaluation & Purging System, which can be done in house or at our customers premises depending on how sensitive the equipment may be.
It is important to note that before fitting any desiccation system that the Seeker is dry gas purge, with either Dry Nitrogen or Dry Air, to ensure all the hygroscopic built in moisture is removed. We can supply a dry air purging system that will perform this task.
